Independence Power and Light (IPL) has spent 100 years delivering electricity to their customers with the lowest possible price and the highest levels of customer service. The utility continues to deploy the best systems and applications to achieve these goals and recently continued to do this when they acquired Milsoft Outage Management (OMS) from Milsoft Utility Solutions.

IPL recently selected the SBS Utility DataHub™ solution to support their requirement to have an integrated OMS solution without having to do expensive, custom interface development. The Utility DataHub converts and exports GIS network data into the Milsoft network structure. The primary consideration in IPL choosing SBS was the ease of creating an electric network connectivity model from their Geographic Information System (GIS) that can be directly loaded by the Milsoft Engineering Analysis and/or Outage Management System products in a seamless manner. The implementation will ensure that the OMS ‘as-operating’ network can be updated within minutes with new ‘as-designed’ information contained in the IPL GIS.

SBS, working with Milsoft, has developed an export capability that translates the common data model differences between GIS and Milsoft to allow on demand updates with minimal, if any manual interaction. Data model translations from GIS to Milsoft support advanced modeling requirements, including complete electric system connectivity, circuit identification and specific settings for information not tracked in GIS.
